Report

Bury looked to put more pressure on the rest of the league and further themselves from 2nd place Rochdale and 3rd place Castle Hill who didn't have fixtures.

A slow start to the game allowed Howe Bridge to settle early on. There were few opportunities in the first 25 minutes of the game, at which point Howe Bridge took the lead. A dubious free-kick was awarded in the Bury half and was swung into the 6 yard box; after a couple of deflections, the ball bounced in the back of the net off the unfortunate thigh of man-of-the-match Liam Donnelly for an own-goal. Bury were then awarded their own dubious free-kick and replied with an equaliser from Simon Curtis. Will Purser put a dangerous ball into the box and Curtis towered above the defender and 'keeper to head home from close range.

1-1 at half-time. In the second half, Bury defended well and kept the visitors to a minimum of chances, however, they created very little themselves. Howe Bridge were reduced to 10 men midway through the half, giving Bury a chance to pressure the visitors. The winning goal came from a long kick from goalkeeper Chris Graham. Alex Lundy grabbed the opportune moment from some hesitant defending and seized on a loose ball, bravely challenging the on-rushing goalkeeper with a 50/50 and winning the ball to head home from 15 yards out.

A well earned 3 points for the Old Boys; their next fixture is against Rossendale Amateurs on Saturday 19th November, 2pm kick-off at Buckley Wells.
